I realized recently that I've neglected some of the 'hard' subsets of electronic music, such as industrial, EBM and Electro. With the Audiomata samplers, that was alleviated somewhat, but still, I found my interest growing somewhat in exploring those genres more thoroughly. Thus, I surfed over to the Flaming Fish website and picked up the Cd's of 3 bands from those respective genres that had previously intrigued me.
Regenerator was the Electro disc of the 3, with their "Debugged" album. They've appeared on each volume of the Audiomata compilation series. This is a really impressive album. While each track has the harsher/nosier elements typical of the genre, each song still has a very strong melody that remains at the core of the song. Track six is a bit of a aberration, as I don't really understand why the track was recorded in German. "Backwards" is a awesome idea, realized perfectly, as a lot of the sounds in the track were actually recorded backwards. It makes for some awesome effects... "Horn Of David" was the track that hooked me into this band initially, and it still is utterly infectious to me.
Overall, fans of 'Hard Synthpop' will find a lot to love here, especially Neuroactive fans. Highly Recommended! Added: Saturday, March 23, 2002 Reviewer: Jason Baker Score: hits: 662 Language: eng
