This limited edition release combined a remix album for Regenerator, the sometimes spiritually oriented Industrial band on Alpha Matrix records (formerly on Flaming Fish records), with a best-of disc with selected tracks from the band's albums and EP's. The remixers represent a wide spectrum of artists, covering a lot of the more well-known bands in the Industrial, Electro and EBM genres. Bands such as Front 242, Razed IN Black, KMFDM, Assemblage 23, and Clan Of Xymox all appear here as remixers!

As you are probably imagining, the style of these remixes is overwhelmingly leaning toward the more harsh industrial style of electronic music, but there are a few surprises in store. Razed In Black actually remodel "Blink" into a really synthpop-friendly track, well, a very clubby synthpop track. You have to expect that Assemblage 23's remix would be awesome, and Tom S. doesn't disappoint, with a awesome clubby rendition of "Tkae Me". "Shores Of Forever", while remaining a thumping club track, incorporates a slight pop element that I really enjoyed. One mix I really didn't like was the "Drug (Junglist Mix by Cult Of Jester)". The drum and Bass take on the track, combined with some really odd and annoying sounds repeating throughout got on my nerves really fast. I can't really explain why, but the "Bombs Away" remix was another one I really enjoyed. The Clan Of Xymox mix of "Lightbringer" is a well-crafted, dark, and creepy gothic version of the track. Very well-crafted.

The second disc is the best-of component of this set, and features tracks going all the way back to 1993 and the band's first release. Most of my favorite tracks from this band are on this disc, including the wonderful "Horn Of David", "Backwards" and "Intruder". The mix of harsh male vocals and soft, ethereal female vocals may not be for everyone, but it really works well with this band. They've crafted a unique sound and style out of the Dark Electro/Industrial genres, very frequently touching on spiritual issues while never really endorsing one religious mindset. In short, I find Regenerator to be a very impressive Industrial/Electro/Dark Pop band. They have incorporated a lot of diverse influences, and yet molded out a unique style all their own. If you enjoy some of the more heavy Electro-influenced material such as Assemblage 23 or Dust Of Basement, than this 2 Cd set will fit into your tastes perfectly. Recommended!
