This is a new, landmark chapter in the evolution of Red Flag...
The Ultraclear packing scheme is a new innovation to me, and I like it. It's basically a pouch in which the Cd and booklet are enclosed, with a printed album title and logo on the front flap of the pouch. I like the concept, and I've liked the black CD more than I thought I would. I also like the poster-foldout design for the liner notes booklet.
A much, much darker overall tone that previously presented for Red Flag here. Some of these songs I had already been exposed to (through the 2 mp3.com cds), but they are so good I don't particularly mind! This is a very deep, emotional album. Anger, love, rejection, sadness, and other emotions are all deeply explored. And from the industrial-tinged sound of "Curtains" to "Sanctum Sanctorium", a wide myrid of musical moods and styles are explored as well. I found each and every song here to be excellent. At first, "King Of Everything" was a little disturbing to me, but I emailed Red Flag and they explained the intended meaning of the song. It's turns out not at all to be intended like I though it was, but I cann see easily how the lyrics might be mis-construed. "Heaven In Medis Res" is another song with lyrics I disagree with. I understand the song is from the perspective of someone devastated by grief, but I take issue with the statement there is no heaven. Some might sy I'm being overly nitpicky, but all I'm doing is giving my honest thoughts on the song...
One of my most favorite songs, oddly enough, was "Tortured Daisy". The lyrics are simple and repetitive, but the music is just breathtaking. An awesome song. I put it on repeat for at least 3 times all the time. "For The Dark" is a really neat song about stargazing. I'm pretty sure that's what it's about...
Overall, Red Flag's best album yet. I love it!!! Added: Saturday, July 13, 2002 Reviewer: Jason Baker Score: hits: 986 Language: eng
