Rhythmic Symphony - Rhythmic Symphony EP
Self-Possessed
Darkness Rising
Whisperings
Morocco
Dead Survivors
This is the debut EP for Rhythmic Symphony, self-released in 2005 and currently only available through Cdbaby.com. The EP features 5 original tracks, as composed by Justin Kesselring, and clocks in at just under 25 minutes. Justin isn't ashamed to name his influences up front, as he cites both The Echoing Green and Joy Electric as heavy influences in the first sentence of his Bio on his website. Like those bands, there's a definite spiritual slant to the songs here.
The vocals are very smooth and engaging here, and the chirpy, cheerful synths in tracks such as "Self-Possessed" and "Morocco" make the songs not only catchy but very danceable. That's not to say this is all Erasure-esque fare though, as both "Darkness Rising" and "Whisperings" bring in a De/Vision-type darkness into the mix that's very interesting. The final track, "Dead Survivors", sounds like it's a Echoing Green b-side. By that, I mean it sounds like it was written by Joey B. of TEG, both in the music and lyrics. A really cool song!
Overall this is a solid and very promising EP. I think that fans of Declaration or EG will definitely find a lot to love here. Recommended!
